FACT OR CRAP
Welcome back to another version of FACT OR CRAP! Below are the results from last week’s questions:
Question 1. A lock of Elvis Presley’s hair, allegedly cut when he joined the army in 1958, sold at auction for $500,000. FACT or CRAP?
73% answered FACT and 27% answered CRAP! And the correct answer is: CRAP! If you answered FACT you weren’t far off! A lock of Elvis Presley’s hair did sell at auction, but not for $500,000. The anonymous buyer nabbed the lock of hair for $15,000. Here are a couple more Elvis hair auction facts: In 2002 a jar of hair belonging to The King sold for $115,000 at auction. In 2009 a single strand of hair, said to be clipped by Presley’s barber of more than 20 years, Homer Gill Gilleland, sold for around $1,700! Now that’s a head of hair worth some serious coin!
Question 2. The first African American woman to become a millionaire was Madame CJ Walker. She produced the first hair care products for African American hair. FACT or CRAP?
80% answered FACT and 20% answered CRAP! The correct answer is: FACT! Madame CJ Walker was an amazing business woman and made her fortune by developing and marketing a hugely successful line of beauty products for black women under the company she founded, Madame CJ Walker Manufacturing Company.
