Sam presents the Sam Villa Signature Series Shears, haircutting shears made from 100% Japanese molybdenum alloy. Sam highlights the features of his scissor shears collection, which includes Wet Cutting Shears, Dry Cutting Shears and Reversible Blending Shears. Sam also shows how easy it is to convert his haircutting shears into left handed shears.

Hi, I’m Sam Villa. As a salon owner for over 20-years and a platform artist and educator for over 30-years I’ve come to appreciate the importance of comfort, control and performance of the tools of our trade. I was thrilled to work with master craftsmen to create our shears. They’re designed to combine the finest Japanese materials with advanced ergonomic comfort. Sam Villa Signature Shears are made from 100% Japanese molybdenum alloy. They’re compression-forged for strength and durability. You Sam Villa Shear comes with a live time warranty. Now lets take a look at some awesome shears. The Signature Series includes: • Wet Cutting Shears • Dry Cutting Shears, and • Blending Shears Allow me to demonstrate what we mean by the neutral, natural position. If we take our arm down by our side and we shake our hand, bring it up natural and relaxed, notice how we place the Sam Villa Shear into our hand, how neutral and natural that position is. Now we are giving you some personal preference here. Your thumb can go where we have it or you have the option of moving that back, depending on any cutting techniques that you are doing. Another feature we’ve given you is, with the little figure place it inside the double tangs and that will stabilize the top portion of your hand allowing you to use the thumb action only. Some great features and benefits of the Sam Villa Signature Series Shear. Now, allow me to demonstrate the opposing grip shear vs the Sam Villa Signature Shear. I am going to take and place the Sam Villa Signature Shear in my hand. Beautiful, natural. Now let’s take an opposing grip shear, place that into my hand and now, look at that position. Look how my elbow is down and the Signature Series Shear is horizontal. In order to get an opposing grip shear horizontal I have to raise my elbow putting more stress on the elbow and the shoulder. Now watch this. When we open and close, look how I open and close. Now watch this. When I close this, look how much my thumb moved to close the Sam Villa Signature Shear. Now look at the opposing shear, it’s still open. So that means that my thumb needs to move more to close the shear. More stress on the thumb. Less stress on the thumb. Sweet. A few other points to note about my shears, and here, let me demonstrate with my dry cutting shear. First of all, notice the differences in the dry cutting shear, see the longer length, bigger blades, same ergonomics. Now you’re probably wondering, why wet vs dry? Have you ever noticed when you cut using your wet shears, all the time, you’re sharpening them more often. Why? Wet hair is more supple, dry hair is thicker, more mass of hair to go through. Notice this, longer length, bigger blades. It allows you to get through more mass of hair. And don’t forget, same ergonomics. Natural position for your thumb, personal preference and your little finger between the double tang stabilizes the top. Sam, can I also use it for wet cutting? With the dry cutting shear, you can use it for wet or dry. We have come out with a dry cutting scissor to save you the cost of constantly sharpening wet. Now you have something that can get through more mass of hair. The Dry Cutting Shear. Speaking of blades, all the signature series shears feature convex blade edges. This type of blade must be hand-crafted, it costs more to produce but I feel it is absolutely critical. Convex blades will start out sharper and hold their edge longer versus conventional, machine edge bevel blades. And here’s another important feature on Sam Villa Shears, we’ve added a Teflon lining to the pivot point on the shear. This is usually found on the most expensive shears made. It’s important because it eliminates the mental on mental grinding at the pivot point of the shear. This will mean your shear will feel smoother and last longer. And finally, you will notice we’ve incorporated a leaf-spring tension system. The leaf-spring mechanism is the best tension spring system available. It provides added precision and control and extends the life of the blade. When you first use your shear you may find it feels a little tight, remember nothing wrong. Here’s how you properly adjust the tension of your shear. Simply go into the screw a click at a time. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. Just a click at a time to adjust the tension of your shear. A personal choice on the amount of tension you desire. Now lefties, we have not forgotten about you. If you are left-handed and you use a right-handed pair of shears to cut, we’ve got the one for you. Simply take our Signature Series Shear. Take the screw-head out, don’t forget the tension plate. Turn the scissor over, place your tension plate, screw head in, turn it right to get the desired tension and you have a pair of left-handed shears. How awesome is that.
