Blending Shear Blade Position

In this video Sam takes you through how to use the Reversible Blending Shear, also called Blending Scissors. Sam outlines various scissor techniques, including the importance of blade position when using the blending shear.

Here’s another great way to use the blending shear. Remember it’s reversible, here’s why. Today when we are cutting our bobs it’s great to cut the length off with your blending shear. When you’re cutting the length off you are going to get a nice soft edge. It makes the hair more pliable. Especially, as it grows out it gets even softer and pliable. Watch how this works. So we are going to come in, we are going to take the blunt blade on the bottom and the teeth are on top. We are going to use our comb, the wide teeth of our large cutting comb. We are going to place the blunt blade in where we want the length and close. Now when I close notice how I move the scissor left, right, left, right. As you move to cut length your screw head may get in the way. Make sure you are just working with the shaft of the scissor when you are doing this technique. Now if this is uncomfortable with your hand coming from underneath, then I want you to just hold your scissor there and bring your hand on top. Now when you bring your hand on top this could be comfortable for you. Now remember, close and move, left, right, left, right. That will enable you to cut all of the hair. Here’s how the analogy works. With the blunt blade on the bottom, can you see that I am getting a blunt hard line underneath? If I take the blunt blade and put it underneath there is that blunt line. Reverse it and put the blunt blade on top and close. You get a blunt, hard line on top and your texture underneath. Take a round brush, blow dry it to flip up and it will flip right up. So what you are doing is this, blunt blade on bottom, teeth on top, hard line underneath, softness. It’s almost like a baseboard, it will bevel under really easy. Blunt blade on top, reversing the blending shear, gives you the hard line on top, texture underneath, hit it with a round brush and it goes under. It’s a great way to use the reversible blending shear.
