Part 2: Shapes Today

In this episode of ‘What’s the Buzz’, Sam looks at the trend in hair shapes, including using short and long lengths together to create versatile hair. Sam also takes a look at styles from the 60’s that are reflected in today’s looks, such as 60’s layering.

Let’s talk about What’s the Buzz. Shapes today include both short and long lengths yet together they create versatility that could be strong, soft or seductive. Something so versatile that it could be very soft, it could be very strong, or it could be very seductive looking. Our guests today are looking for that versatility in today’s world. They are waking up and they are thinking, ‘I want to change the way I look today.’ Things aren’t good today I want to change the way I look. That’s what’s helping them get through today’s world and we as hairdressers need to help them with that. Good friend of mine, Wayne Grunt, he talks about being a ‘day maker’, it’s all about, we have the power to make someone’s day as a day maker. So I want you to think about that. 60’s layering is back which creates gentle edges. 60’s layering. I remember in beauty school they taught me a haircut called the Shag, and it was interesting right Lisa. You would part it down the center, you would part it down ear to ear, from side to side, we lifted it up Jimmy, and we just cut it all off, we let it go and we had a beautiful haircut called a ‘Shag’. Very Jane Fonder, very cloot looking. That degree of elevation and that method of cutting is back, why? Because it gives us very gentle edges and allows us to concentrate on that degree of elevation and not so much on texture.
