Twist Cutting Technique: Nape

In this video you will learn how to cut a bob line using the Dry Cutting Scissor and the Twist Cut technique. Sam also provides tips for creating a bob that is shorter in the center and longer on the outside.

Now remember how we were talking about the dry cutting shear. Watch this, twist cutting. Running behind and you need to take the length off and create a bob line, the dry cutting shear is going to allow you to do that. Why? Because it can get through a mass amount of hair the way it’s made. Watch this. Simply separating front to back, the high point of the crown to the top of the ear on both sides. Take the entire back section now. It takes courage because you are going to do it all at once, and remember this takes practice. Make sure that you comb through very, very neatly and that you detangle everything. You will start the technique, if you are right-handed, in your right hand. If you are left handed, you are going to start the technique in your left-hand. Allow me to share with the right-handed people first. ‘Righties’ please watch. Right-hand goes in, where you place your right-hand is where the length is. Simply rotate to your left, point directly to center. Left hand comes directly over that, no gap in between, directly over that. Hand the hair to your left hand. Now make sure you comb through this so it’s nice and clean. Once you are there watch this dry cutting scissor work. Take and follow your hand and cut a straight horizontal line. Look at the mass of hair it’s releasing. Once you start you are committed. Continue to cut all the way through on this, all the way through. Now watch what is happing here. All of this side is over directed to this side, this side is over directed to the right side. Remember, over direction creates weight and length in the opposite direction. Over direction creates weight and length in the opposite direction. Make sure to check out Chris Barrett, Fuel for Design: Principles for Design. Center goes nowhere. Now watch how cool this is. When I release this you can see that the center is shorter and the outsides longer. I’ve been able to create that bob that is shorter in the center and longer on the outside. No remember ‘lefties’ your left hand starts the position first, rotate to your right, and your right hand will come directly over your left. So you are in this position, right hand comes directly over that, hand it to your right hand, continue to twist to the right. You are now in cutting position and you cut your horizontal line. Remember, where you hold your end is where the end result is. We’ve demonstrated how the Sam Villa Signature Series Dry Cutting Shear can release a mass of hair, small amount of time.
