Hairdo Ideas Hairstyle
introducing... The Moulet!

In its heyday during the 1980's, the Mullet was made popular by Tom Jones, David Bowie, Florence Henderson and Paul McCartney. Now, the look is back, and it's more versatile and wearable than earlier versions.

"The traditional Mullet is short on the sides and long in the front and back," says Sam Villa, co-founder of the Sam Villa brand and Education Artistic Director for Redken 5th Avenue. The modern-day Mullet is different—I like to refer to it as The Moulet, says Villa. With fans like Sharon Stone, Taraji P. Henson and American Idol's Lacey Brown, the difference in length from front to back is less severe. "The front is worn more forward, the top is flatter and the back is shorter and softer."

The Moulet is transitioning people from wearing the sides of their hair forward to "tilted back" diagonally away from the face. "It has disconnected inside layers and should be softly textured around the face to reduce thickness and add movement," says Villa. "The cool thing is its versatility—you can just pin up the back and the entire shape changes into a shorter style."
