Many times in classes we hear statements like "my client will never go for that" or "my clients have more conservative jobs so they won't go for that" or some other version of a reason why their client "won't go for that. Nine times out of ten, it's a decision we make for the client instead of giving them options this is why I wanted to introduce you all to Laurie.
Laurie is an executive in a very conservative bank and isn't necessarily in an age group that we typically think want edgy or trendy hair (by the way, I've found this assumption to be very wrong). What I love about her is she shows up to a board room meeting dressed super classy and then rocks these fairly dramatic detached designs in contrast to the simplicity of the her wardrobe. Why can she do it without a second thought and others think they could never get away with that haircut? I'm reminded of the Henry Ford quote, Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you are right. It's all about the clients attitude and that begins with how we present these looks to our guests.
Oh, by the way, Sam and I have been telling you all that the mullet (we like to call it the moo-lay) is coming back soon and we've seen your faces in the audience shrivel up like someone dumped a bag of rotten melons on the stage. Laurie actually sat down in my chair and said "I've noticed that the mullety looks are coming back in style, what if we did something in that direction? YES!
This particular haircut is based on a design from our Modern Heritage collection called the Ruby. Everything about Laurie's haircut was done in the same manner as you will see in the Ruby video except I used our Signature Series 6.25" shear instead of a razor, and the lengths on the interior are much shorter with detachments on top being longer. This is a great example of how we want stylists to utilize these collection haircuts! First, learn the patterns and the approach and then modify and adapt the design to suit the guest in your chair.
We challenge you to break down the opinions and assumptions you may have collected over time to offer your salon guests a new experience. One of the top reasons that people leave their hairdresser is that they are board or feel that their hairdresser is not growing. This openness to create and progress will keep you and your clientele thriving for many years to come.
