Odile Gilbert used hair extensions and braids to create the “mermaid hair” at the Rodarte show, and Refinery 29 called it “the most beautiful hair we’ve seen all fashion week.”  The color is genius, and then to give hair texture and wave while promoting shine and health, prepped hair was simply braided, the girls were sent to makeup to let it dry, and then the braids were taken out and broken up with fingers.

Here’s a tip on how to create the look at home.  The important thing to remember is the size and amount of braids - the bigger the section, the looser the curl.

  • Spray Redken Guts 10 volume spray foam into hands and use fingers to rake through the top layer of dry hair and then the under section to evenly distribute the foam which locks in texture.
  • Divide hair into 4 quadrants, braid each and secure with elastics (loosely to prevent a mark).  For a more romantic smooth wave, use ponytails - wrap into buns and secure with pins.
  • Go to sleep – to prevent frizz, wear a scarf Lucille Ball style.

In the morning, take out braids and finger through texture to separate, do not use a brush unless you want to deconstruct the texture and make it explode.
