Lorde’s massive head of curly hair on the cover of V Magazine is as true and honest as her lyrics.  She puts it all right out there and you can too.  Follow these tips on caring for curly hair and your curls will look ROYAL!

Curly hair does not need to be cut on a regular basis unless it is short.  Get it trimmed every 12 weeks and get an in-salon treatment like Redken’s Extreme Chemistry Shot to strengthen hair and make it feel softer.  Ends need friends!  You know you have a good hairstylist if they don’t point cut your ends.  Curly hair needs to have a more blunt end to weigh the hair shaft down and reduce frizz.  When ends are cut in a zigzag pattern, it creates a more deconstructed look.

Wash your hair 2 times per week – let the natural oils condition hair and weigh it down to reduce volume.

Dry Brittle HairRedken All Soft shampoo and conditioner
FrizzyRedken Smooth Down shampoo and conditioner
Dense and DryRedken Real Control shampoo and conditioner

Once a week use Redken Real Control Overnight Treat Night Recovery treatment. It helps renew and repair severely damaged hair during sleep; provides nourishment, smoothing control and strengthening repair; absorbs instantly so it won't transfer onto pillows or sheets; users awaken to shiny, restored hair with lasting softness and control.

Dry naturally curly hair on the ‘cold’ setting with a diffuser on the Sam Villa Professional Ionic Blow Dryer and keep hands out!  The colder air will close the cuticle, reducing frizz and promoting shine.  Keeping hands out ensures less expansion.

Blend 1 T of Redken 01 glass smoothing complex with 1 T Redken outshine anti-frizz polishing milk (more if hair is denser). Section hair at the nape of the neck and apply product working towards the top, continue to take sections, then dry with a diffuser rotating the diffuser head from the left and then right.
