Author Sam Villa | CO-FOUNDER SAM VILLA©

If you love the look of a hair bun but prefer texture over polish, then the Rough Bun is for you!  If you have “lived-in” hair that needs to be worn up, try this fun and easy technique that will give you a messy yet perfect bun.

Rough Bun Hair Tutorial Step 1

Start by spraying a moderate amount of Redken quick tease 15 throughout your hair for some added grit and texture.

Rough Bun Hair Tutorial Step 2

Gather all your hair together into a high ponytail and secure with a clear elastic.

Rough Bun Hair Tutorial Step 3

Split your ponytail into 3 or 4 sections depending on the density of your hair.

Rough Bun Hair Tutorial Step 4

Use the fine teeth of your Sam Villa Short Styling Comb to backcomb each section of your ponytail.

Rough Bun Hair Tutorial Step 5

Make sure to place each section in the direction you want it to go to form a circle.

Rough Bun Hair Tutorial Step 6

Working from the center and outer layer of each section, use your comb to gently smooth the top, making sure not to pull the backcombing out.

Rough Bun Hair Tutorial Step 7

Roll your first section under and forward to create a barrel curl and secure with a bobby pin.

Rough Bun Hair Tutorial Step 8

Continue this around your head, rolling each section to its designated spot creating a circle.

Rough Bun Hair Tutorial Step 9

Spread each section evenly to cover any unwanted spaces.

Rough Bun Hair Tutorial Step 10

Once you have everything in place, finish off with Redken fashion work 12 hairspray.
