It’s hard work to stand behind a chair (or table) all day and take care of clients. It takes lots of stamina - physically, mentally and emotionally. And with all those you serve in a day… it can take a toll on your energy level!

Stop for a minute and make a list… see how many you come up with.
Did you put yourself on that list?
It’s no wonder you sometimes run low on energy! You go, go, go from morning to night, often running on little but adrenaline and caffeine and seldom taking time to serve yourself! Do you often skip lunch or eat on the run? Forget to drink water? Or even stop to go to the bathroom?!
The good news is, with awareness and some simple tools, you can make little changes that will help to keep your energy in balance all day.

This article is all about Personal Energy- let’s get started with what that is.
Basically, we as humans, are energy systems- that expend and renew energy. With every encounter and activity, we either give it or get it… and it’s often in flux. Our energy is personal, so everyone has their own levels and is affected differently by different things. The key is to start paying attention to the signals your body is giving you… they will point to where your energy level is at that moment so you can take action to regain balance when you need to. Start taking note when you’re feeling off!
SIGNS OF LOW ENERGY IN THE BODY
- Feeling tired or drained
- Burned out
- Headaches or body aches
- Impatience, Frustration, Worry
- Overeating or loss of appetite (craving comfort foods)
SIGNS OF TOO MUCH ENERGY IN THE BODY
- Feeling jittery or nervous
- Busy mind
- Increased heartrate
- Irritability or impatience
Too low or too much energy in the body will always create a feeling…
Don’t dismiss it- feel it- and seize the moment to make adjustments where they’re needed.
The good news is… we have unlimited energy within and can remain centered even through the ups and downs of our day.
When you keep your energy body in balance naturally, everything else begins to fall into place.
Our personal energy systems are known as:
BODY. MIND. SPIRIT.
These are not separate. What affects one, affects the other.
Each system needs to be tended to- taken care of- charged.
WHAT IF WE RECHARGED OURSELVES, AS OFTEN AS WE DO OUR PHONES?!
What if we didn’t wait until there was only one bar left?
Think about how a low battery affects your phone … it’s the same with you.

Although our energy systems (Body, Mind, Spirit) are not separate, it’s helpful to look into them individually so that we can begin to become aware of each and how they contribute to our overall well-being.
Pay attention to aches and pains… that means low energy. Do a quick body scan and notice any sensations of tightness or tension. When you are aware of the area of pain, you’ll intuitively know what to do. Often, it’s as simple as stretching (neck, shoulders, back, arms, wrists, fingers, legs, feet, toes)
Another quick way to calibrate your energy is to simply breathe! Breathe light into the area where you feel an ache, and breathe out any tension or tightness. It only takes a minute or two and no one even has to know you’re doing it!
How’s your thinking? Fast, busy thinking can indicate too much energy. Slow thinking, like having problems making decisions or slow reaction time can mean low energy. The best (and quickest) way to balance thinking is to…you guessed it… breathe. Just inhale and exhale… create a rhythm that’s a little slower and deeper than usual. Repeat until you feel your mind slow down.
That’s YOU! Your essence. Your true self. How are YOU feeling?
Your spirit needs Pleasure. Joy. Happiness. Compassion. Creativity. Hope. Feed those and your energy will immediately rebound! One of the quickest things you can do for your spirit is to laugh. When you’re feeling low, find something that will make you belly laugh and you’ll instantly feel energized!
Sometimes we need higher energy in the body- to get something done, like run a marathon, be present for your last client of the day, or to learn! And sometimes we need to lower our energy- to relax, handle situations or to simply fall asleep! The key is to create a balance, so you’re not running high or low all the time.
Minding your energy starts with awareness. You can’t change what you’re not aware of!
