Hairdressers are aware of repetitive stress injuries, mainly carpal tunnel syndrome, that are caused in part by cutting hair. These are extremely painful conditions which can be career-ending. But not all stylists understand the benefits of using a swivel shear and how this cutting tool can relieve a lot of stress and pain that you experience when cutting hair.
In this video, Andrew Carruthers, Education Director for Sam Villa, demonstrates how you can comfortably cut hair, with your elbow in a down position, no matter what cutting technique you need to use.
Let's discuss the different swivel shear blade sizes and talk about which to use depending on the technique and desired outcome:
The Professional 5.5" Swivel Shear is great for fine work close to the head such as cutting a tight graduation, cutting hair around the ear and other detailing work.
The Professional 6" Swivel Shear is excellent for cutting layers, deep point cutting techniques and the blade is long enough for your one length shapes.
The Professional 7" Dry Cutting Swivel Shear features a sword blade and is fantastic when cutting large amounts of dry hair. This shear is great when you are compressing sections of hair to cut, deep point cutting and is a favorite when cutting and detailing hair extensions.
